I have been drinking a lot of different beers here. There is a monsterous selection to choose from in Vegas. So I thought I would share my opions on them.

Tonight I had Old Crustacean, a Barley Wine brewed by Rogue Ales out of Newport, Oregon, USA.

Commercial Description:
An unfiltered and unrefined Barleywine. Intense, robust, malty and dark. The cognac of beers. A hugh beer in a little bottle, this is a beer designed for sipping. Old Crustacean is brewed with eight ingredients, Great Western Harrington, Klages, Hugh Baird Carastan and Munich Malts, Chinook and Centennial Hops, free-range coastal water and PacMan yeast. Old Crustacean is best when aged for one year.(from ratebeer.com)

This is my first barley wine and it’s from a three year old bottle. Wow, what an incredible assault on my pallet. It has a very strong chocolate taste from the massive amounts of sweet, earthy malts. It also starts bitter and also ends that way. With it’s syrupy and chewy texture, it becomes easy to compare this beverage with espresso. The barley wine looks like mud and has an aromic, fruity nose. The taste of alcohol is strong. There is no doubt that this beverage is meant for sipping.
