Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, whom was appointed by President Bush, warned Thursday that terrorists were planning a large-scale attact on the United States “in an effort to disrupt the democratic process.”
DeForest Soaries Jr., chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, expressed to Newsweek that no federal agency has the power to postpone an election, and accordingly, ask Ridge to ask Congress to grant his commission such power.
Soaries was appointed by President Bush and is a former New Jersey secretary of state and senior pastor of the 7000-member First Bapist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset.
