BUY THE ALBUM WITH TEETH WHEN IT IS RELEASED!!

I have listened to with teeth about seven times so far and I have to say that I don’t like it. it is not like the other albums. with teeth is not an easy listen and is not simple, garage rock that trent said it would be. it is dark. it is layered. but with teeth just does not hit home — it just does not connect. there are too many varied tracks that are quite different from each other. the album is all over the place without being coherrent. some of the bland tracks makes starfuckers, considered the worst track of the fragile a real gem.
the first track “all the love in the world” is a strange track. its simple electonica sound is different that anything i have heard from trent before.
“you know what you are?” is easily the loudest, fastest song on with teeth, so it stands out like a sore thumb. similar to the feel of “march of the pigs” or better yet, the lesser known track “no, you don’t” from the fragile. this song is more hard and straight than the comparisons.. I am sure it will be a fine live song, but not for the album. I consider this the second worst song on with teeth.
“the collector” is lame. i just skip over it now. i think this is the worst, uninspired, trepid song.
“the hand that feeds” also sticks out due to its over-produced sound, but it is a good, solid track.
“love is not enough” is good, but nothing special.
“everday is exactly the same” is my favorite track from with teeth. its personal lyrics blend well with the soft, desperate and sensitive sound of the track. it has a similar feel to “where is everybody” from the fragile. the song “everyday is exactly the same” reminds me of a soundtrack to a diary entry. i like it.
“with teeth” is an odd song. it is slightly experimental, yet not venturing from the traditional song stucture. there is a quiet spot in the middle of the song and i have not figured out what the hell it means. i haven’t read the lyrics for the song, cause, well there are not any, but the lyrics from what i have heard are different too.
“only”… when this song comes on, i can only laugh. the strobe light starts to flash, the checkered dance floor appears, i slip into my polyester, turn on the talking heads and get the party started!
“getting smaller” is a tight, fast, hard rock song. i think this is the best track on with teeth to generate sales with. sounds like a foo fighters song.
“sunspots” is different but just as unimpressive as “even deeper” from the fragile is. while listening to “sunspots” you get to hear what i think is trent’s vacuum cleaner! this song definitly makes me want to “stare into the sun” and become numb… to the song.
“the line that beings to blur” is an excellent track. this song shines. dave grohl’s live drumming is outstanding. along with the vocals that sound like they were recorded in a bathroom, or garage match the loud, distorted bass and creates the impression of … i don’t know, but this is one of trents best songs.
“beside you in time” is an experimental piece like “eraser”. i was very surpised to hear it, but after hearing some of the other tracks and how they do not fit into the garage rock sound trent said his album would be, i shouldn’t have been suprised. this song is an art piece, driven with passion. it is good he still finds passion.
“right where it belongs” is a joke. reminds me of linus from penuts tapping away at the piano.. a kid who just learned to use the piano trying to be sensitive. the lyrics are poor and cliche, then with the crowd added to the end is pretentious for this child of a song. “right where it belongs” does not go over well with me.

that’s the end! though it is good, it is far below the fragile. it is as if this is trent’s first album. that what is sounds like — a bands first album. i am sure the next one will be better.

*edit* – please understand that having this new album is far better than not having anything at all from nin.

*update may 22*
i have listened to the album a zillion times by now and my perception of the songs has changed somewhat. i at first liked all the love in the world and besides you in time, but now i do not care for those songs. the opposite end i though the collector and sunspots were bad, but now i think they rank as the better songs on the album. the best songs are (ranked 1-5 with 1 being top) the collector (5), every day is exactly the same (3), with teeth (2), sunspots (4) and the line begins to blur (1). these songs are excellent.
