The black widow I caught for tara’s birthday has caused a little problem. Late at night we would go out near the pool and capture some roaches for my wind scorpion and tara’s widow. However, the widow was not eating the roaches. The last two were simply killed and suspended. It would pull up the tangled roach high up into her web. We did not know why she was saving them, but it came clear when we woke up today. It made an egg sack. In the next one to three weeks hundreds of little black widow spiderlings will be set free. They will escape. We are not sure what we are going to do about this yet.
She’s had a large tattoo of a black widow from about ten years now. Finally she has a living one.
On the other hand, my wind scorpion is still a vicious monster. It is about two inches long but with the sensor legs in front and back legs extended is about four inches long. Since I found he running like the wind on the back patio a few weeks ago it has become rather fat. It just keeps eating. It does not stop like other organisms do when full. That’s a bit strange.
The wind scorpion is a horrible monster from outer space. Tan in color it runs like the wind with its two sensory arms outstretched looking for prey. Though it is nearly blind, it uses its two sensory legs to determine if it found a living organism smaller than itself. Then it uses is quick speed to bite, yes bite and hold on to the prey. Often, it does not catch the prey with the first bump of its sensor arm. However, very few prey can escape the speed of this monster. It runs in circles with incredible speed search for the hapless victim. Once found, since it is only a matter of time, the victim will become mince meat for the wind scorpion.
The wind scorpion has two sets of scissor-like jaws that are quite large. The jaws slice and mince the prey. Once a victim is caught in these jaws of death, very few escape. If one does, it will soon die from a vicious gash caused by the wind scorpions scissor jaws of death.
The wind scorpion cares not what type of living organism it finds. Only that it is smaller that itself. Wind scorpions will eat insects, spiders, birds, mice, and reptiles. Their two jaws slowly chop up the prey. During this time those same jaws secrete juices that dissolve the portions of the prey that have become minced meat into a liquid slurpee. This is sucked up while the wind scorpion continues to chop up and dissolve the prey.
This process is flat out both morbidly fascinating and horribly grotesque action I have ever witnessed.
Last night I saw a meteor while walking to the store. It was very bright and I thought it would land right near me. But alas, it faded away like all meteors do. Then while working late into the morning I saw two more meteors outside my window. Bright flashes of light streaking across the sky! So, I thought it would be nice to drive out into the desert tonight to watch for meteors. But the unexpected is happening. Storms are coming. The sky will be shrouded in melancholy tonight.
Getting our two kittens from new york is proving to be a real pain in the ass. The guy who is shipping them is one lazy mofo. We are about to drive our asses there to pick them up ourselves.
